August 01, (THEWILL) — Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has no plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or form any political alliance with members of the party ahead of the 2026 governorship election, his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, has said.
Reacting to media reports and public enquiries suggesting an imminent defection, Rasheed described the claims as “false and baseless,” insisting that Governor Adeleke remains firmly in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he intends to seek re-election.
“Our attention has been drawn to news reports and media enquiries about the alleged defection of Governor Adeleke to the ADC or alignment with ADC figures ahead of the 2026 governorship race. There is no truth in those publications or speculations,” Rasheed said in a statement issued on Saturday.
The spokesperson reiterated that Adeleke will run for a second term under the PDP and does not require an alliance with any other party to secure victory.
“Governor Adeleke has no alliance with anyone in the ADC. He remains in the PDP, will run under the PDP, and does not need any alliance with ADC to win with a wide margin in 2026,” he stated.
He added that the Governor enjoys strong grassroots support in Osun due to his performance since assuming office.
“The Osun electorate supports Governor Adeleke because of his impressive performance in office. That good work is ongoing, and the people are committed to re-electing him to sustain the delivery of good governance,” Rasheed said.
He further disclosed that the Osun State PDP had already adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, further ruling out any alliance with the ADC.
Governor Adeleke, according to the statement, urged PDP members in the state to continue strengthening party structures at all levels in preparation for what he called another “sure victory” in 2026.
