OSOGBO, Nigeria — Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has debunked speculation that he is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that he remains firmly committed to the PDP and will contest the 2026 governorship election under its banner.
In a statement issued on Friday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke described reports of an alleged alliance with ADC figures as “false and unfounded.”
“Our attention has been drawn to reports about the imminent defection of Governor Adeleke to the ADC or alignment with ADC bigwigs ahead of the 2026 governorship race,” the statement read.
“There is no truth in those publications and speculations.”
Adeleke reaffirmed that he will seek re-election on the PDP platform and expressed confidence in a “wide-margin” victory.
“I remain in the PDP, will run in the PDP, and need no alliance with the ADC to win with a wide margin in 2026,” the governor said.
He also referenced the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term by the Osun State PDP caucus, which he said underlined the party’s current strategic posture—not a shift in allegiance.
“We in the PDP in Osun have already adopted and endorsed President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, so there is no alliance with the ADC,” he added.
Governor Adeleke credited his strong support base to what he described as his administration’s achievements since assuming office.
“The Osun electorate supports me because of my impressive performance since I came to office,” he said.
“That good work is ongoing, and the people are committed to sustaining the delivery of good governance by re-electing me in 2026.”
The governor urged PDP members to redouble efforts in building party structures at all levels to secure another electoral victory in 2026.
His remarks follow a July 21 resolution by the Osun PDP caucus endorsing his second-term bid and backing President Tinubu’s re-election—a controversial move that raised eyebrows about the party’s alignment and triggered the defection rumours.
