The Ademola Lookman vs Atalanta transfer saga has taken a messy turn in the latest update surrounding the 2025 African player of the year.
As football fans eagerly gear up for the 2025/2026 c;ub football season across different leagues such as the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and many more, all eyes have been on the transfer update of players in the summer window.
One of such players is Ademola Lookman and the current situation of things surrounding his possible exit from the former Europa League champions, Atalanta, has left football fans in awe as the Nigerian forward has failed to report to training with his club now considering the possibility of a lawsuit.
Is Atalanta suing Ademola Lookman? Atalanta are reportedly set to pursue a lawsuit (suing) against Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman after he left Italy without authorisation and skipped training sessions in protest at the club’s refusal to accept a transfer offer from Inter Milan.
The 27-year-old winger was said to have embarked on an unapproved holiday following Atalanta’s decision to reject Inter Milan’s latest bid. The club’s management, led by the Percassi family, are said to view his conduct as entirely unacceptable.
According to Football Italia, Lookman has also cut off communication with the club since his departure. The report claims Atalanta’s hierarchy have already initiated preparations for legal proceedings, which could see the player face a significant fine.
“Following several missed training sessions, Lookman has opted to leave Italy for an extended summer break,” the outlet reported. “The Percassi family are preparing legal measures that could lead to a hefty penalty, as the forward’s behaviour is deemed wholly inappropriate, regardless of his reasons.”
Will Atalanta sell Ademola Lookman this summer? Atalanta have revealed that the possibility of Ademola Lookman joining another Serie A side is non=existent but the Italian side have not ruled out the possibility of selling him off this summer.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Atalanta have been exploring potential buyers for Ademola Lookman outside Italy, including clubs in the Premier League.
Arsenal were among the English sides approached by Atalanta regarding a possible deal. Although the Gunners have shown interest in the past, they did not follow up with an official offer. Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, were also linked with the former Everton and Fulham attacker, but talks never advanced.
According to GIFN, Lookman has been training privately away from Atalanta’s facilities to maintain his fitness as he pushes for a move. His absence from the club’s Zingonia base has now stretched to six consecutive days.
