All 183 Kurmin Wali Abduction Victims Rescued — Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani , has confirmed the safe return of all 183 persons abducted from Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area, saying none of the victims remains missing.

Speaking shortly after receiving the rescued residents at the Government House in Kaduna on Friday, the governor said the state worked closely with the federal government and security agencies to bring the ordeal to an end.

Sani declared, “Today, I can say without contradiction that all those abducted from Kurmin Wali have returned. Altogether, the figure is 183, and we would not be sitting here if even one person was still missing.”

Naija News reports that the governor explained that the kidnappers initially seized 183 residents during the January 18 abduction while worshippers attended service.

He said the release of the captives unfolded in stages; 11 persons had been freed and taken to the hospital earlier in the crisis, and 83 victims returned a few days ago, and the final batch of 89 were rescued on Thursday morning.

“We would not be here if even one person was still missing,” Sani said, underscoring the relief of locals and families.

Governor Sani thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his personal involvement throughout the rescue efforts, saying the president maintained constant contact with state authorities.

Sani further stated, “For us, even one person abducted is unacceptable. That is why we refused to politicise the situation or engage in media arguments over numbers. Our focus was clear: to ensure that every single person returned safely.”

Sani announced that he had formally requested the establishment of a military base along the Kajuru–Kachia axis, describing the route as a long‑standing security flashpoint.

“I am happy to inform you that Mr President has given his assurance that this request will be granted,” the governor said.

He added that the state government has begun infrastructure interventions in Kurmin Wali, including the construction of an access road, with plans to build a hospital and a skills acquisition centre to support post‑abduction recovery and community development.

Governor Sani said the rescued victims will not immediately return home, but will first receive medical and psychosocial care in Kaduna before reuniting with their families.

The governor also appealed to residents to support security personnel, acknowledging the risks they face daily in defending communities.

“These men and women risk their lives every day to protect us. It is unfair to attack their integrity whenever incidents occur, yet rely on them when danger comes close to us,” he said.
