“Anything for the camera” – Wike’s aide slams Peter Obi over visit to late Rufai’s family

“Anything for the camera” – Wike’s aide slams Peter Obi over visit to late Rufai’s family

Lere Olayinka, a media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has slammed Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party over his visit to the family of the late Nigerian goalkeeper, Peter Rufai.

Olayinka in a post on X accused Obi of doing anything possible for the camera and media attention.

The minister’s aide followed Obi’s visit to the family of the late goalkeeper who was laid to rest on Friday, August 22.

At Rufai’s funeral, his colleagues, Taribo West and Austin Eguaveon had slammed the Nigerian Government for neglecting national players who had sacrificed their all to the nation.

The claims by the ex-football players caused a mixed reaction with many stating that there was a need for the Nigerian government to feel indebted to the former players since they all played on a salary basis and sometimes received quality gifts from the government after their big matches.

However, a day after Rufai’s funeral, Obi visited his family to console them on his passing.

Accompanied by a former international Sylvanus Okpala, the ex-governor urged the Rufai family to remain strong.

He also prayed for the repose of the soul of the late former Super Eagles goalkeeper.

However, this did not sit well with Wike’s aide who described Obi’s visit as an attention-seeking gesture.

Olayinka said, “Peter AGBỌ́TIKÚYỌ̀ Obi.

“Peter Rufai died on July 3, 2025, he is paying a condolence visit on August 23, 2025, just because of what Taribo West said.

“Just anything for the camera and media shaaa,” Olayinka wrote on X.
