AOG 2025: Industry Leaders Pledge To Boost Angola’s Exploration, Production

ABUJA  – Top energy executives from ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, Chevron, Sonangol, and Cabship at the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) 2025 Conference have pledged to drive Angola’s next chapter of exploration and production.

Highlighting five decades of industry achievements, the leaders unveiled ambitious plans to expand upstream projects, bolster natural gas development, and strengthen logistics, positioning Angola as a global energy powerhouse.

Industry giants including ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, Chevron, Sonangol, and Cabship at the Conference and Exhibition, sponsored by ENSA, convened to outline a dynamic roadmap for Angola’s energy sector.

During a high-profile panel discussion, these leading operators underscored their unwavering commitment to propelling the nation’s exploration and production into a new era, building on five decades of transformative success.

ExxonMobil, a key player in Angola’s energy landscape, emphasized its ongoing investment in both established and frontier regions.

The company, which has produced over 2.5 billion barrels and employs more than 200 skilled workers, secured a license extension for Block 15 in 2025 to unlock further exploration opportunities.

Additionally, ExxonMobil is evaluating prospects in the Namibe Basin, signaling its long-term vision for Angola’s resource potential. “Our 30-year legacy in Angola drives our ambition for decades more,” said Katrina Fisher, ExxonMobil Angola’s Country Manager. “We’re doubling down on maximizing existing assets and exploring new frontiers.”

TotalEnergies echoed this optimism, highlighting its role in boosting Angola’s production capacity. In 2025, the company brought two major projects online, adding 60,000 barrels per day (bpd) to the market. Martin Deffontaines, Country Manager for TotalEnergies E&P Angola, credited Angola with advancing global oil and gas innovation. “Angola’s progress in offshore development has set a global benchmark,” he said. “TotalEnergies is proud to partner in this journey and will continue to deliver pioneering projects.”

Sonangol, Angola’s state-owned energy champion, reaffirmed its dual focus on expanding upstream activities and supporting national economic goals. Edson Pongolola, Director of Planning & Management Control at Sonangol, emphasized the company’s role as a catalyst for broader development. “Sonangol is more than an oil company—it’s a vehicle for Angola’s growth across multiple sectors,” he said. By advancing both onshore and offshore projects, Sonangol aims to solidify its position as a cornerstone of Angola’s energy ambitions.

Chevron, a leader in Angola’s natural gas sector, highlighted its contributions to the Angola LNG project, which is nearing full capacity. Frank Cassulo, Managing Director of Chevron’s Southern Africa Strategic Business Unit, outlined a vision for gas as a bridge to economic and energy transition goals. “We see natural gas as a cornerstone for Angola’s future, delivering reliable energy while fostering economic growth,” he said.

Cabship, marking 16 years of operations in 2025, showcased its growing influence in Angola’s logistics ecosystem. The company has expanded its infrastructure, secured key contracts with operators like Angola LNG, and is developing an offshore diving and support venture in the Cabinda Special Economic Zone. “From our base in Malongo to new operations in Soyo and Luanda, we’re committed to adding value and building strong partnerships,” said João Filipe, Cabship’s Chairman and CEO.

As Angola leverages its rich energy heritage to fuel future growth, the AOG 2025 panel underscored a shared commitment to innovation, collaboration, and sustainable development in one of Africa’s leading energy hubs.
