The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kebbi State, has tasked Legislators at state and national levels to provide the desired empowerment to their constituents in consonance with the mandate of public service.
The State Chairman, Abubakar Muhammad Kana Zuru, made it clear that it was incumbent on them to cater for the wellbeing of their people in addition to legislative duties.
Kana spoke in Ka’oje at an empowerment programme organised by the member, House of Representatives, Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency, Bello Dallatun Ka’oje on Saturday.
“It’s incumbent on our members in the National and State Assemblies to involve their constituents in nation building and societal growth by hearkening to their yearnings and aspirations.”
“Legislators are duty bound to provide material support and other necessities to their communities as the need arises, it’s not a favour, it’s an obligation,” Kana quipped.
He praised Hon. Ka’oje for empowering his electorates consistently with economic items for agricultural production and family upkeep.
In a remark, Hon. Bello Dallatun Ka’oje gave the statistics of items to be distributed under the Community Care Give Away for Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency, comprising fertilizer, herbicide chemicals, sprayer machines and assorted grains.
“I am distributing 4000 bags of fertilizer, 4000 litres of herbicide chemicals, 4000 sprayer machines and 4500 bags of assorted grains”,
“Fertilizer, herbicides and sprayer machines are for distribution among males, while grains consisting of rice, guinea-corn and maize are for sharing among women,” Ka’oje explained.
Flagging off the programme in Ka’oje, Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris, commended the lawmaker for his recurring kind gesture to the people of his constituency.
The Governor warned the beneficiaries against selling the materials for monetary gains, ordering security operatives to arrest anyone found doing so.
“The items distributed are targeted to enhance your economic wellbeing; those who received fertilizer and other farm inputs must use the commodities for agricultural purposes not to be traded off,” Idris warned.
Prelude to the event, Governor Nasir Idris paid homage to the Traditional Ruler of the area, Sarkin Bargun Ka’oje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman Adamu in his Palace, where the Governor was conferred with the traditional title of ‘Sadaukin Bargun Ka’oje’ by the traditional council.
The Sarkin Bargun Ka’oje further presented a well-decorated horse as well as other paraphernalia of culture and tradition to Comrade Idris as a mark of honour.
“You are the 2nd Governor to spend the night in Ka’oje after the late Shehu Kangiwa of the defunct Sokoto State, 44 years ago; this is true indication of love and care for the people,” he said.
The Governor expressed appreciation to the people of the area for their unflinching support to him and the government.
He approved the request of the traditional ruler for the immediate rehabilitation of the Government Lodge in Ka’oje, built by the late Shehu Kangiwa.
