Audu Ogbeh, Former PDP Chairman and Agriculture Minister, Dies at 78

ABUJA, Nigeria — Audu Ogbeh, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and minister of agriculture, has died at the age of 78.

His family announced his passing in a statement on Saturday, saying he “departed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, service and dedication to our nation and community.”

The statement added: “We are comforted by the many lives he touched and the examples he set. Details of the funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course. We thank friends, colleagues and well-wishers for their prayers and support during this time. We will appreciate some privacy at this time while we mourn the loss of our patriarch.”

Mr Ogbeh served as PDP chairman from 2001 to 2005 and was minister of agriculture from 2015 to 2019 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He was also federal minister of communications between 1982 and 1983 during President Shehu Shagari’s administration.

A veteran politician, Mr Ogbeh began his political career in 1979 and served as deputy speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly until 1982.
