AWKA – Communities in Ayamelum council area of Anambra state on Friday pledged their undiluted support for Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate in Anambra’s November 8, off-cycle governorship election in the state.
At the local government campaign rally held at the Anaku community field, the headquarters of the local government,a mammoth crowd of supporters from Omor, Umumbo, Igbakwu, Omasi,Ifite-Ogwari amongst other communities that make up the area literally mobbed the APC candidate and his Deputy, Senator (Mrs), Iyom Uche Ekwunife calling them the “Emanipators”, we yearn for.
They said that they were pleased with the conduct of their campaigns which are issue based with focus on specific policy matters like promotion of transparency, accountability, and good governance.
Hon Icheke Anigbogu, a community leader and high stake holder in the area articulated their position and bemoaned the utter neglect the people of the area were subjected to in the past 20 years of APGA administration in the state in spite of their meeting their civic responsibility in the area of prompt payment of taxes and levies.
He pointed at the ignoble lack of roads infrastructure, neglect of their farming activities without support from government in the area of inputs and grants , as well as what he referred to as total lack of government presence in all spheres.
“We can no longer hide or control this displeasure. We pay our taxes as and when due, and unarguably the food basket of the state.
“Yet, we are not fit to be considered for any government presence in the form of good roads and or projects. They only remember us during each election cycle, come here and talk with sugar coated tongues and vamoose after collecting our votes with nothing to show for our support.
“We are tired of the deceits visited on us these past years of APGA administration in the state and want change.
“We are happy that God in His infinite mercy thrw up Ukachukwu and Ekwunife, Iyom, at this moment of our despair to soothe us. We are not interested in party platform. We are interested in the candidate with pedigree who will emancipate us.
“We have found that individual in you, and I tell you now that we are solidly behind you and Iyom because we know what you can do.
“Even without being Governor, it has been rosy with your milk of kindness, supporting the indigent , those in need and other less privileged people among us to find their feet with your personal resources.
“We can only imagine what it will be like with you on the driving seat”, he said.
In his remarks, Prince Ukachukwu thanked all the communities that make up the Ayamelum council area for the confidence they reposed in him, and his Deputy, Senator , Mrs, Iyom Uche Ekwunife, as well as the party.
He pledged not to disappoint or let them down, because as he said, he had already taken notes of the challenges bedeviling the council area before now and vowed to turn things around in the event of his victory.
“Then. You will weep no more because the package we are bringing to the people will reposition the battered image and lost Glory of the State and you will know there is a government out to serve the people selflessly.
“Read my lips and I would like you to jot the droppings of my mouth today down and hold me accountable if I failed you.
“Outside getting your roads tarred within the first three months of my administration if elected, I will boost agricultural activities in this council area through the the revolution I planned for the sector and its value chain which will not just make you farmers but rich farmers producing to feed the state and for export to other said make rich.
Anambra he said is now a shadow of herself and equally living in-isolation amidst the numerous abundance of human capital and natural resources deposits that abound in the state.
He reaffirmed his commitment to tackling insecurity, which he said remained his first priority if elected, underscoring that every other sector of the economy will stabilize once security is fixed.
Ukachukwu while addressing the excited mammoth crowd l promised to rescue, rebuild and restore Anambra State across all sectors to what it used to be known as truly the “LIGHT OF THE NATION”.
At Omor community where the campaign train stopped, Ukachukwu extolled their resilience and believe in his message of hope and emancipation and took time to explain to them his plans to explore the abundant gas deposits in Omasi community in the council area to generate power for the state’s consumption and industrial use.
The availability of a gas plant he planned to build in the area he said will ensure abundant energy for domestic and encourage moribund industries in the state to come alive again, investors confidence rekindled to set up new industries to employ the army of unemployed youth in our state to earn a living contribute meaningfully to court society.
“Trust me, I will do it*, he told them.
