Azerbaijan Grand Prix Presents Opportunity For Ferrari Comeback

April 17, (THEWILL) – Ferrari’s lacklustre performance in the 2023 Formula 1 season has put their title challenge in jeopardy.

After a promising start in 2022, the Italian team has fallen behind both Mercedes and Aston Martin in the standings, with just 26 points from the first three races. This is a far cry from 2022 when Ferrari had already claimed two race wins and had a driver on the podium at each of the Grand Prixs.

The upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix presents an opportunity for Ferrari to make a much-needed comeback and reassert themselves in the title challenge. Yet, Ferrari’s record in Azerbaijan has been unflattering, with only two podium finishes in the five races on the streets of Baku.

In 2022, double DNF effectively ended their title challenge, and this year, they will need to make significant improvements to jump ahead of the other challengers. With the spring break that was afforded to teams after the Chinese Grand Prix, Ferrari will have had the opportunity to bring some much-needed upgrades to Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will be the first of the six sprint-race weekends on the 2023 calendar, and Ferrari will have two chances to show that they are taking steps in the right direction. Fred Vasseur has not been able to change the team’s fortunes for the better just yet, but with the right upgrades and strategies, Ferrari may be able to re-establish themselves as serious contenders for the championship.
