March 29, (THEWILL) – Barcelona Femeni triumphed with a commanding 5-1 victory against Roma Femminile in the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarterfinals at the Spotify Camp Nou, on Wednesday.
The Catalan team secured their spot in the semi-finals with the win and will face either Lyon or Chelsea in the semis. Barca’s coach, Jonathan Giraldez, relied on the same starting line-up that won the first leg 1-0 in Stadio Olimpico, with former Barca players, Lozada and Alves, featuring for Roma.
The Catalonians came out strong, pressing high and creating dangerous opportunities from the outset. Fridolina Rolfö scored the first goal, followed by a stunning long-range shot from Mapi Leon, and a third goal from Rolfö just before halftime.
The second half saw two more goals from Asisat Oshoala and Patricia Guijarro, making it 5-0, before Roma scored a consolation goal through Annamaria Serturini. The Catalan side held firm and secured their place in the semi-finals, much to the delight of the crowd at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Barcelona’s next challenge will be against Alhama Feminino in the Primera Iberdrola on April 2, before they face either Lyon or Chelsea in the Women’s UCL semi-finals.
