May 16, (THEWILL) – Barcelona sporting director, Jordi Cruyff, will leave the club at the end of the season to pursue new opportunities, the La Liga champions announced on Tuesday.
The announcement comes after director of football Mateu Alemany’s departure was confirmed on Monday. In a statement, La Blaugrana said that Cruyff had informed President Joan Laporta of his decision earlier that day.
“Cruyff has said that he is committed to assisting the club in its transition towards a new executive structure, and will be offering his full support with the closure of outstanding operations in the summer transfer market”, the statement read.
Cruyff, son of Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff, played for Barcelona in the 1990s and later won the English Premier League with Manchester United. He and Alemany were appointed after Laporta was elected Barcelona president in March 2021, at a time when the club was facing significant financial and institutional issues.
