Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested one 22 year old Yakubu Mohammed, alias ‘world boy’, of Magaji Quarters, Bauchi metropolis, while robbing one Shamsudeen, of Anguwan Sarakuna, of a Techno POP 5 phone, worth #20,000 after stabbing him on the lap.
A statement issued to newsmen by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, which said that the police acted on a distress call, explained that based on investigation, the suspect was linked with another armed robbery suspect, Bala Mohammed, aka ‘Balagus’.
The statement said that the pair, armed with knives, had earlier attacked one Ijeoma Neonye of Magaji Quarters, stabbed her and stole an Infinix Smart 7 plus, (#120,000), #280,000 cash, a Rolex chain wristwatch (#35,000) and other valuables.
It said that in a previous incident ‘world boy’ and an accomplice, known as Amir, now at large, attacked one Usama Abdullahi, stabbed him on the left shoulder and took a Techno POP 5 phone (#70,000). ‘Bala Balagus’ has been arrested.
“Prior to these offences, ‘world boy’ was notorious for Sara-Suka thuggery in Magaji Quarters, Anguwan Sarakuna and Rafin Majaranta, with multiple violent clashes. He was arrested, prosecuted and convicted in 2024 without option of fine, but later reappeared in the community and resumed atrocities.
“Exhibits recovered included 2 sharp knives, one scissors, and a Techno POP 5 phone which belongs to the 1st victim,” the statement said.
In another development, one 24 year old Magdalene Pius, of Gwallameji area, Yelwa Police Division of Bauchi, reported that one 21 year old Osama Salihu, of same address, threatened her with a knife and robbed her of an Infinix Smart 9(#125,000), and an Itel keypad phone(#15,000).
“Detectives arrested the suspect and recovered the Infinix Smart 9 phone as exhibit, with the case transferred to SCID Bauchi for discrete investigation.
“The CP, Mr Sani-Omolori Aliyu has assured residents of the command’s resolve to continue to strengthen security across the state,” the statement concluded.
