Bauchi State Police Command has taken swift and decisive action against a Tsangaya school teacher accused of assaulting and unlawfully confining an 11-year-old Almajiri pupil in Darazo.
In a press release issued on September 23, 2025, the Command confirmed the arrest of Lawal Nasiru, 28, who allegedly tied the minor, Sani Abdullahi, with a heavy rope and beat him with a stick and thick cable, causing serious injuries.
The case came to light on September 22, when Idris Mohammed, a social welfare officer, reported the incident at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Darazo, accompanied by the injured child.
> “Upon receipt of the report, a team of policemen led by DPO Darazo, SP Auwalu Ilu, was drafted to the scene of the crime and arrested the suspect,” said CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Command.
The victim was taken immediately to General Hospital Darazo for medical attention.
During police interrogation, the suspect admitted to the act, claiming the minor was trying to escape from the Tsangaya school.
> “He was trying to run from the school, and if he ran away, we wouldn’t know where he would go. That is why I tied him with a rope before his parent came,” Nasiru stated.
The child also gave a disturbing account, stating he was confined and beaten for an extended period, with no clear justification.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for discreet and thorough investigation.
> “Investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect will be profiled and charged to court for the established offence,” CSP Wakil stated.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring perpetrators of abuse face the full force of the law.
