October 04, (THEWILL) — Bournemouth recovered from a goal down to defeat Fulham 3-1 at the Vitality Stadium on Friday evening, climbing to second place in the English Premier League with 14 points from seven matches. The hosts trailed after Ryan Sessegnon converted a fine through-ball from Nigerian substitute, Samuel Chukwueze, in the 70th minute, but three goals in the final 20 minutes secured all three points for Andoni Iraola’s side.
Antoine Semenyo drew the Cherries level eight minutes after Fulham took the lead, racing past Timothy Castagne before slotting his finish through the legs of goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, from a narrow angle. The comeback gathered momentum when substitute, Justin Kluivert, fired a spectacular strike into the top corner from 25 yards out, having evaded Tom Cairney’s challenge six minutes later.
Fulham pushed forward in search of an equaliser during stoppage time, with Cairney going close from distance. However, their offensive approach left them exposed at the back, allowing Ben Gannon-Doak to break clear and set up Semenyo for his second goal in the 96th minute.
The match took place in difficult weather conditions, with rain and wind affecting play throughout the evening. Both teams struggled to create clear opportunities during the opening 70 minutes before the game burst into life with four goals in the closing stages.
Fulham remain in 11th position on eight points following the defeat. Bournemouth enter the international break sitting in second place, with their late resurgence proving decisive in a match that appeared destined for an away victory.
