In addition, copies of approval letters for study, as well as certificates for first degrees, master’s degrees, and PhDs, must also be submitted.
The Nigerian Police Force has directed all state commands, zonal commands, formations, and specialised units to urgently compile and submit a comprehensive list of officers who hold PhD degrees.
According to a confidential wireless message obtained by SaharaReporters, the directive requires officers in charge to forward the lists in both hard and soft copies.
In addition, copies of approval letters for study, as well as certificates for first degrees, master’s degrees, and PhDs, must also be submitted.
The message specifies that soft copies should be provided in Excel format on a flash drive, under clearly designated headings.
The directive, described as “urgent,” was issued by the Force Headquarters, Abuja, under reference number CB: 4001/FS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL2/15, and signed by the Force Secretary on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police.
SaharaReporters in May reported that the Force had directed all its commands nationwide to submit lists of officers with advanced academic qualifications as part of preparations for a promotion exercise.
This included inspectors and rank-and-file officers holding first degrees, master’s degrees, and doctoral degrees (PhD), as well as those with approved study postings.
Commands in Jos, Kano, Ikeja, Kaduna, Maiduguri, Oji-River, Enugu, and other locations have been instructed to comply immediately.
In a wireless message dated May 15, 2025, and obtained by SaharaReporters, the police authorities said, “The Intelligence Police directs, as a matter of urgency, that you send a list of all officers — inspectors and rank-and-file — currently serving under your command who hold doctorate degrees (PhD).”
It further stated, “Additionally, please forward information regarding officers with approved postings for study, including those with first degrees, master’s degrees, and PhD certificates.”
