Brentford piled on the pressure for struggling champions Liverpool with a stunning win at the Gtech Community Stadium, handing Arne Slot’s side a fourth consecutive Premier League loss.
Liverpool’s midweek Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt proved short-lived, as familiar problems resurfaced in London.
Michael Kayode’s long throw led to an early opener for Dango Ouatarra, and Kevin Schade doubled the lead just before half-time after latching onto Mikkel Damsgaard’s exquisite through-ball.
Milos Kerkez’s deflected strike offered a glimmer of hope before the break, but Brentford remained in control throughout.

VAR drama and late consolation
The hosts restored their cushion on the hour mark when VAR ruled Virgil van Dijk’s challenge on Ouatarra to be a foul on the line, allowing Igor Thiago to convert from the spot.
Mohamed Salah’s sharp finish late on made it 3-2, but it was too little, too late for Slot’s men.
The defeat leaves Liverpool sixth, four points behind leaders Arsenal, while Brentford climb to 10th with their fourth win of the season.
