England women’s coach Sarina Wiegman brought some unexpected fun to the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony with a lighthearted shoutout to Nigerian superstar Burna Boy.
After being named Women’s Coach of the Year, Wiegman wrapped up her acceptance speech with a playful remark: “If Burna Boy is around, maybe we could do a little bit of dancing too!” The moment drew laughter from the audience and quickly went viral online, sparking excitement across both the football and music communities.
Burna Boy didn’t waste time responding to Sarina Wiegman. On Monday, September 22, he tweeted: “Haha, I’m up for it Sarina! A huge congrats to you and the team @Lionesses.” His reply has since fueled buzz about whether the lighthearted exchange could lead to something bigger, perhaps even a stage appearance or collaboration.
Wiegman’s comment comes on the back of a landmark year for her and the Lionesses. She led England to Euro 2025 victory in Switzerland, beating Spain 3-1 on penalties after a tense 1-1 draw in extra time, her second European title with England following their 2022 triumph.
The Ballon d’Or night also saw major wins for the Lionesses. Goalkeeper Hannah Hampton picked up the Yashin Trophy, while Alessia Russo, Chloe Kelly, Leah Williamson, Lucy Bronze, and Hampton herself all finished in the top 10 for Women’s Player of the Year. Arsenal was crowned Women’s Club of the Year.
With Burna Boy now playfully “on board,” fans are buzzing at the idea of seeing the Grammy-winning Afrobeats star and the title-winning coach share a fun moment together.
