Charly Boy warns politicians against rigging 2027 election

Veteran Nigerian entertainer, social critic, and activist, Charles Oputa, who is widely known by his stage name Charly Boy, has sent a strong and unambiguous warning to Nigerian politicians, cautioning them against any attempts to manipulate or falsify the results of the forthcoming 2027 general election.

During an in-depth conversation with Rudolf Okonkwo on the political talk show 90MinutesAfrica, the outspoken septuagenarian, also referred to by many as “Area Fada,” described the 2027 election as more than just another political event, calling it a “defining moment” that could determine the nation’s democratic future and the will of the people. In his view, the coming poll would either set Nigeria on a path toward real change or push it deeper into its current challenges.

He boldly declared that the rallying cry for the 2027 elections would be, “rig and die,” stressing that the Nigerian electorate will not tolerate electoral malpractice or result tampering. According to him, any individual or group planning to rig the polls should be prepared to face the most severe consequences. “The 2027 election will be a defining moment for Nigeria. Anybody that plans to rig should be ready to die. It is rig and die. Because by that time, our eye go clear well well. E don clear small o. What we are about to see in 2026 will make Nigerians decide whether to continue in this manner or to cause a revolution to happen in this country,” he stated emphatically.

Charly Boy emphasized that the key to ending bad governance in Nigeria lies in conducting credible elections where every vote truly counts. He maintained that ensuring the integrity of the electoral process should be the primary focus of every well-meaning Nigerian ahead of the 2027 polls. “The solution to bad governance in Nigeria can only come when our votes begin to count. So, our concern right now should be how our votes would count in 2027,” he added, pointing to electoral transparency as the most urgent national priority.

The entertainer also reacted to the recent decision of the Lagos State Government to rename the popular ‘Charly Boy Bus Stop’ located in the Bariga area of the state. He dismissed the move as “outright silly and a bloody distraction,” arguing that there were far more pressing issues affecting the lives of ordinary Nigerians. He reiterated that his personal concern is focused on the millions of citizens who go to bed hungry every day, rather than symbolic gestures with little to no real impact on the people’s welfare.

Known for his decades-long activism, political awareness campaigns, and bold social commentary, Charly Boy has consistently positioned himself as a voice for the oppressed and a fierce critic of political corruption and incompetence. With his latest remarks, he has once again stirred national conversation about accountability, civic participation, and the urgent need for Nigerians to protect their democratic rights ahead of what he believes will be a historic and potentially transformative election in 2027.
