Church of Nigeria mourns Archbishop Anikwenwa

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has lost its former Dean, Most Reverend Maxwell Samuel Chukwunweike Anikwenwa, JP, OFR, who died at the age of 82.

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has lost its former Dean, Most Reverend Maxwell Samuel Chukwunweike Anikwenwa, JP, OFR, who died at the age of 82.

Born in Oyi Village/Town, Awkuzu Council of Anambra State on November 22, 1940, Archbishop Anikwenwa’s journey to priesthood started in 1966/68. In 1987, he became the Bishop of Awka and thereafter was elected the Archbishop of Province 11 in 2000. He also, became the Dean, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) in 2000 and was elected Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Anambra State Chapter in 2001.

According to the statement signed by the General Secretary of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Venerable Gershinen Paul Dajur and the Admin. Assistant to the Archbishop, Venerable Rex C. Kanu, the former Dean died on Monday at Iyienu Diocesan Hospital, Ogidi, Anambra State, after a brief illness.
