Coffin on okada? Viral video leaves Nigerians in shock

Residents of Ibadan were left stunned after spotting a man riding a motorcycle with a full-sized coffin strapped behind him.

The unusual sight quickly caught attention as the rider navigated through the city’s roads with the coffin balanced and tied using ropes.

The videos of the incident have since gone viral on social media, drawing both shock and laughter from Nigerians. Many viewers described it as another example of the country’s unique street realities.

Eyewitnesses claimed the rider seemed unfazed despite the odd load, suggesting it might be a delivery from a local carpenter or undertaker. Still, the sight left many speechless, wondering about the risks involved in transporting such items on a busy road.

Another incident recorded in Enugu
A similar scene was captured in Enugu, where another motorcyclist was seen carrying a white coffin through a junction.

The image, which surfaced shortly after the Ibadan video, further fueled the conversation about unconventional transport methods in Nigeria.

Locals said such scenes are not entirely new, especially in towns where motorbikes remain the most accessible means of movement.

The Enugu rider, however, became the latest symbol of the country’s creative and sometimes risky hustle culture.

On social media, Nigerians expressed a mix of humour and disbelief, with some joking that “you never see Lagos own” and others urging drivers to “move past quickly.” The reactions highlight how easily strange events now capture national attention online.

Common sight in Delta, Netizens reactions
Following the viral clips, commenters from Delta State noted that coffin transportation on motorcycles or even bicycles is not new in their region. They claimed it has become a practical way to move such items through rural areas where cars cannot easily access.

Nigerians flooded X (formerly Twitter) with funny takes, saying, “Nothing you no go see for here.” Others teased that such sights could only happen in Nigeria, where innovation often meets absurdity.

The coffin-on-bike trend has once again showcased the resilience and humour that define everyday life across Nigeria.
