September 28, (THEWILL) — Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has charged newly appointed and elected officials to uphold the oath of office and serve in the best interest of the state and the nation.
He gave the advice at the weekend during the swearing-in of the Acting Chief Judge of Imo State, Justice Ijeoma Agugua; the new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Paul Obinatu; and Prof. Chinonye Love Moses, who will head the newly created Ministry of Entrepreneurship, Skill Acquisition and Social Responsibility. The event was held at the Sam Mbakwe Exco Chambers, Government House, Owerri.
Uzodimma reminded the appointees that public office is a call to service, not personal gain.
“You are elected or appointed to serve, and the only way to achieve results is to remain focused, respect the oath of office, and always ask yourself: does my action align with the interest of the people?” he said.
Reflecting on the challenges his administration faced upon assumption of office in 2020, the governor said most of them were surmounted through commitment to his oath, fear of God, and a determination to reposition the state.
“The Imo State we met in 2020, even the blind in the state can attest that it is not the same today,” he noted.
On the judiciary, Uzodimma expressed optimism that it would recover fully under the leadership of Justice Agugua, describing her appointment in line with constitutional provisions as a positive step.
He also disclosed that the newly established Ministry of Entrepreneurship, Skill Acquisition and Social Responsibility was created to tackle unemployment and reduce crime by engaging the youth and vulnerable groups.
According to him, the appointments of Obinatu and Moses were based on their track records in the judiciary and academia respectively.
In their vote of thanks, Justice Agugua and Obinatu, speaking on behalf of Prof. Moses, expressed gratitude to the governor for their appointments and pledged to work for justice, peace, and sustainable development in line with the government’s 3R agenda of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, and Recovery.
The ceremony was witnessed by the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Victor Okon; Chief Registrar of the Customary Court of Appeal, Faith Opara; retired Chief Judge B.A. Njemanze; serving judges; members of the Nigerian Bar Association; Secretary to the State Government, Chief Cosmos Iwu; Chief of Staff, Nnamdi Anyaehie; and members of the State Executive Council, among others
