Designed In UK, Made In India : JLR Begins Production Of Range Rover Evoque At Tata Motors’ New Plant

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) have commenced production at the new TMPV’s manufacturing facility in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu, amid surging demand for luxury cars.

Built in just 16 months, this state-of-the-art plant was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru MK Stalin and Mr N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors.

“The inauguration of our Panapakkam facility marks a significant milestone in the Tata Group’s journey to accelerate India’s leadership in sustainable and future‑ready manufacturing. We are also proud to deepen our long-standing partnership with Tamil Nadu, a state that continues to drive industrial excellence, innovation, and inclusive growth,” said Chandrasekaran.

The first vehicle to roll out of Tata’s newly inaugurated 100% renewable energy-powered plant is the Range Rover Evoque , a luxury subcompact crossover SUV produced by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

“Tata Group has long played a pivotal role in nation building and shares a deep, historic partnership with Tamil Nadu. With the commencement of operations at this new manufacturing facility and the rollout of the first Range Rover Evoque in Panapakkam, Ranipet, the state is proud to witness the expansion of world‑class automotive manufacturing,” Stalin said at the event.

To cater to both domestic and international markets, vehicle production at the new facility will be scaled up in phases, with plans to reach its full annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles over the next five to seven years.

“With this facility, we look forward to producing vehicles of exceptional quality, craftsmanship, and technology for customers in India and around the world,” Chandrasekaran added.

But this isn’t the first time the Tata-owned British luxury marque began manufacturing in India. JLR has been manufacturing Evoque, Velar and Discover Sport in India since 2011 and flagship models – the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport – since 2024.
