Nigerian music veteran Don Jazzy has responded to a resurfaced claim made by industry figure Bankulli about a car incident said to have occurred almost two decades ago in London.
Bankulli had alleged that the Mavin Records boss was involved in an accident inside London’s Blackwall Tunnel, removed the vehicle’s number plate, and abandoned the car to avoid high towing fees. The comment sparked debate online, with some fans wondering if the car incident could pose any legal issues for Don Jazzy should he visit the UK.
Reacting to the viral discussions, Don Jazzy downplayed the tension and explained what truly happened. He said the incident occurred so long ago that he no longer remembers every detail, but he made it clear that he did not flee the scene.
According to him, he waited for police officers to arrive, and they carried out the necessary checks, including a breathalyser test, which confirmed he was not intoxicated. He added that the car was eventually impounded, but the retrieval fee was higher than the value of the vehicle, so he chose not to reclaim it.
UK legal experts note that cases of this nature fall under minor traffic violations, which have a strict six-month prosecution limit. Since the police were already involved at the time, and the incident happened nearly 20 years ago, it is legally considered closed and cannot be revisited.
