The Department of State Services (DSS) announced on Thursday that it had arrested two suspects for alleged incitement of violence in Kano State.
The secret police has also deployed its crack detectives to other states of the federation to “track down any politician with the mindset of inciting violence ahead of March 18 gubernatorial and State Assembly elections”.
The suspects, Sharu Abubakar Tabula and Isma’il Iliyasu Mangu, were tracked down after they separately recorded inciting messages and shared them through various social media channels, according to DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya, who revealed this Thursday morning.
DSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, stated this in an Abuja statement.
“In those potentially harmful messages, they specifically championed certain political interests and called on their supporters to violently attack those opposed to them,” the statement said in part.
The suspects also threatened to attack security personnel during the state’s governorship and house of assembly elections on Saturday.
“The DSS will not stand by and watch as misguided individuals or groups undermine the state’s peace and security.”
Afunaya urged the party’s leadership to rein in its members and discourage them from engaging in activities that could disrupt law and order in Kano and its environs before, during, and after the scheduled election.
Everyone is admonished to ensure peaceful gubernatorial election on Saturday.
