DSS captures suspected major weapons supplier to armed groups

The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended a man identified as Musaa Abubakar, suspected to be a major supplier of arms to armed groups operating in Plateau State and other parts of northern Nigeria.

According to a report released Sunday by counter-insurgency analyst Zagozola Makama, the arrest was carried out on November 12, 2025, after operatives acted on targeted intelligence pointing to Abubakar’s activities.

A DSS source stated, “The suspect confessed to having manufactured and distributed high-caliber weapons and ammunition to armed groups involved in violent attacks in Plateau State and other northern regions.”

Officials reportedly stormed his workshop in the Mista Ali area of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, following actionable intelligence.

The report noted that “Abubakar was apprehended red-handed with various Improvised Explosive Device (IED) components, chemicals, and equipment, which have all been confiscated by DSS operatives.”

His capture comes on the heels of the recapture of Abdulazeez Obadaki, widely known as Bomboy, a Kuje Prison escapee linked to the Owo and Deeper Life Church attacks.

These recent breakthroughs underscore the DSS’s ongoing efforts to dismantle terror networks and strengthen national security.

It will be recalled that the agency previously arrested nine high-profile suspects connected to attacks in Plateau and Benue states, among them 46-year-old Timna Manjol, who has pleaded guilty to two of four firearms-related charges in case number FHC/ABJ/CR/451/2025. Manjol is associated with First Baptist Church, Mangu LGA, Plateau State.
