EEDC gives update on blackout in five Southeast states after national grid collapse

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, has announced that gradual power supply restoration has commenced, hours after the national grid collapsed on Monday, 23rd January 2026, around 12:40 pm.

The disco spokesperson, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

EEDC attributed the power outage to the national grid failure, which affected parts of Abia (Umuahia), Anambra, Ebonyi, and Imo states.

He, however, noted that “gradual restoration of power supply has commenced, and we are working closely with the relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth and timely restoration across the affected areas,” he stated.

DAILY POST reports that the Nigerian Independent System Operator had earlier confirmed that electricity restoration had begun across parts of the country following the grid disturbance.
