EFCC Seals Malami’s Residence Housing Buhari’s Daughter

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday evening cordoned off a residence linked to the former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

The operation marks a significant escalation in a wide-ranging investigation into Malami’s eight-year tenure as Nigeria’s chief law officer.

According to PR Nigeria, armed operatives and several enforcement vehicles were deployed to the property, where Nana Hadiza Buhari – Malami’s third wife and daughter of former President Muhammadu Buhari – is reported to be present.

Malami, who served from 2015 to 2023, is currently in EFCC detention. He married Nana Hadiza Buhari in July 2022 in a private ceremony held at the Presidential Villa Mosque, Aso Rock, during the final year of the Buhari administration. She is the former president’s third daughter.

The investigation reportedly covers alleged corruption, money laundering, and suspicious transactions across multiple bank accounts; controversies surrounding the management of the “Abacha loot”; and inquiries into alleged terrorism financing.

Although the former AGF was previously granted administrative bail, EFCC officials state that the bail was revoked after he allegedly failed to meet specific conditions. The commission maintains that he remains in lawful custody for further interrogation.
