A leading governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, on Thursday announced his resignation from the party, citing loss of confidence in its national leadership and alleged compromise of the governorship primary process.
Fayose, a younger brother of former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose, who addressed a press conference in Abuja, said he and his supporters could no longer remain in the PDP, which he accused of being hijacked by forces working against its survival.
“The decision has been somewhat difficult for us to make as stakeholders of the party in Ekiti State. We are, however, compelled to take it considering the state of affairs within the party,” Fayose declared.
He accused the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, of deliberately undermining the party.

You don’t need any soothsayer to tell you that both of them are working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),” he alleged.
Fayose further claimed that the ongoing arrangements for the PDP primaries in Ekiti had already been “compromised” and that whoever emerges as candidate would not be recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“In view of this, I hereby dissociate myself from this kangaroo arrangement,” he said, while urging his supporters to remain calm as he consults on his next political move.
Fayose did not immediately disclose which platform he would pursue his governorship ambition but hinted that consultations were ongoing.
