Equities Market Extends Mixed Momentum Despite Index Appreciation

November 26, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian equities market closed on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, on a mixed note as the All-Share Index (ASI) advanced despite a decline in overall market value.

Market capitalisation opened at N91,440,644,361,693.83 and closed lower at N90,996,327,925,245.17, reflecting mild sell-side pressure.

Meanwhile, the ASI opened at 143,064.57 points and climbed to 143,763.13 points, supported by gains in several mid- and large-cap stocks.

Market activity ended slightly positive in breadth, with 29 gainers and 27 losers, indicating increased investor participation but mixed sentiment across sectors.

Top Gainers
• AIICO 10.00 percent (from N3.20 to N3.52)

• NCR 9.96 percent (from N45.20 to N49.70)

• Ikeja Hotel 9.41 percent (from N22.85 to N25.00)

• Prestige Assurance 7.38 percent (from N1.49 to N1.60)

• Sterling Financial Holdings (STERLINGNG) 6.85 percent (from N7.30 to N7.80)

Top Losers
• Learn Africa -10.00 percent (from N5.80 to N5.22)

• Cadbury Nigeria -9.92 percent (from N58.95 to N53.10)

• Meyer Plc -9.91 percent (from N16.15 to N14.55)

• UPDC -8.83 percent (from N6.00 to N5.47)

• International Breweries (INTBREW) – -8.33 percent (from N12.00 to N11.00)

Custodian Investment, Seplat Energy, Coronation Infrastructure, Julius Berger, and Presco Plc all closed flat.

Investor sentiment leaned cautiously optimistic as bargain hunters accumulated positions in select financial, consumer and hospitality counters. The improvement in the ASI suggests renewed appetite for short-term opportunities, although broader concerns about liquidity and competing yields in the fixed-income market continue to weigh on overall confidence.

Despite the rise in the benchmark index, the dip in market capitalisation points to persistent profit-taking in heavyweight stocks, which dampened the full impact of gains recorded in other sectors. The mixed performance is reflective of a market searching for direction, with investors reacting to earnings expectations, macroeconomic cues, and sector-specific development.
