Ex-Minister, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, emerges PDP Chairman

Former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has emerged as the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Turaki a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) who served as minister during ex President Goodluck Jonathan administration emerged the opposition party chairman by consensus.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State announced the decision of PDP stakeholders to adopt Turaki as the party’s new leader at about 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday in Abuja.

Turaki, according to Governor emerged after broad consultations among PDP stakeholders from the north.

Those present at the stakeholders’ meeting who endorsed Turaki were the incumbent PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum; Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal; former Information Minister, Prof. Jerry Gana; and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

Also present were former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former Kaduna State Governors, Ibrahim Shekarau and Ahmed Makarfi; as well as the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro.
