National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu
National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, on Tuesday warned that the Federal Government would respond decisively to any attempt to disrupt the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State.
Ribadu issued the warning during a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
Represented by the Director of Internal Security at the Office of the NSA, Hassan Abdullahi, the NSA cautioned political actors and criminal elements against violence, saying, “Any violence during the Anambra guber will be met with a strong response.”
He disclosed that security agencies had developed a comprehensive plan to ensure safety before, during, and after the November 8 poll.
He added that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other security agencies are fully prepared to ensure safety before, during, and after the poll.
He said, “As we prepare for the Anambra state governorship election on 8th November 2025, we have put in place robust security measures.
“These include enhanced surveillance, the deployment of sufficient security personnel, and improved intelligence gathering to prevent any attempt by disruptive elements or desperate politicians to undermine the electoral process.”
Ribadu reiterated that security operatives would act swiftly against anyone attempting to undermine the electoral process or provoke unrest during the exercise.
At the meeting, the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, reaffirmed the commission’s readiness for the election, saying logistics and security arrangements were complete.
He stated, “With just 11 days to the Anambra governorship election, the commission is confident in affirming its full preparedness for the polls.”
Amupitan revealed that about 24,000 ad hoc and regular staff would be deployed across the state’s 5,718 polling units. He also urged security agencies to maintain vigilance and prevent vote-buying.
“Security agents cannot afford to create an environment that allows vote buyers to operate. Together, let us combat vote-buying, uphold democratic values, and work relentlessly for the credibility of our elections,” Amupiran said.
Meanwhile, THE WHISTLER gathered that the Anambra State Police Command had directed Area and Tactical Commanders to intensify intelligence-led operations and conduct coordinated raids on identified flashpoints across the state.
The directive followed INEC’s announcement extending the deadline for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), a move aimed at enabling more residents to participate in the forthcoming election.
