All the countries already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have discovered their group stage opponents at a draw held in Washington DC on Friday night.
African representatives Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Morocco, South Africa, Algeria, Senegal, Tunisia, and debutant Cape Verde, all discovered their group stage foes.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The global showpiece will be the 23rd edition of the tournament but the first to feature 48 teams, and is billed to hold from June 11, 2026 to July 19, 2026.
At the event attended by football lovers across the globe, an inaugural peace prize was handed to the President of the Unites States.
The award has been introduced this year by Fifa president Gianni Infantino, designated for a person who has “taken exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace” and “united people across the world”.
