The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says he will support only candidates that support President Bola Tinubu’s reelection, irrespective of political party, in the FCT area councils’ election, scheduled for Feb. 21.
Wike stated this in Abuja on Saturday night, during Sen. Sandy Onor’s 60th birthday.
The minister, who said he owed no one an apology for supporting Tinubu, promised to support any candidate that supports the President at all cost.

“We have the FCT Area Council election coming up on Feb. 21 and I have a duty to support any candidate that supports President Tinubu to win.
“It is also my duty to ensure that any candidate that is not supporting Tinubu does not win in the election, and I owe no apology on my stand,” Wike said in a report from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Speaking on Friday shortly after the inauguration of the 138-member All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for FCT Area Council election, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, declared that the APC will no longer lose election in the nation’s capital – Abuja.
The deputy Speaker, who is Secretary of the council chaired by the Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said he would rally residents of the FCT, especially his Igbo people in their numbers to vote for the candidates of APC in the forthcoming council polls.
He said the President Bola Tinubu-led APC administration has done tremendously well in not just impacting the urban areas of FCT but making governance to be felt even at the grassroots.
“It will no longer be mentioned that APC lost election in Abuja. That was in the time past. We are about to rewrite history. My Igbo people that I love and who love me will not allow me to be shamed, knowing fully well that I’m at the helm of affairs. We’ll make sure that the bulk vote of the Igbo community in Abuja is harvested for the greatest party within the black race called the APC,” Kalu added.
While inaugurating the council, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, charged members to work relentlessly toward delivering total victory for the party.
He expressed strong confidence in the council’s leadership, describing the team as capable and battle-ready.
Yilwatda disclosed that three governors – Hope Uzodimma, Mai Mala Buni, and Mohammed Umar Bago, were appointed as co-chairmen of the high-powered council.
Responding to questions on the political activities of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who are reportedly campaigning for ADC candidates, Yilwatda dismissed their efforts as inconsequential.
He stressed that the APC’s mobilisation strategy is deeply rooted in the grassroots and spans all regions of the country.
In his remarks, the Campaign Council Chairman, Governor AbdulRazaq, described the assignment as both a responsibility and an opportunity to deepen democratic dividends for FCT residents.
