The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has revealed how joint security operatives rescued Nafiu Idris, a staff member of the Department of Urban Affairs of the FCT Administration, who was abducted by bandits in Abuja.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday at the command headquarters, Commissioner of Police Adewale Ajao said the command received a distress call on September 17, 2025, at about 10:23 p.m., after bandits attacked Karu and whisked away the victim.
He explained that the joint team — comprising the command’s anti-kidnap unit, the military, hunters, vigilantes, and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) engaged in clearance operation to rescue Idris who was conducted in the Nasarawa forest area, which shares a boundary with the FCT.
The CP stated that the security operatives had engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel before tracking them to their hideout in Zinda forest at the back of the Nigerian Army Estate in Kurudu.
A total of three notorious criminals named Buba Ahmadi (aka Killer) and Habi Sule (aka Mai Kudu) and their wanted leader, Abdullahi Umar (aka Duna) were killed in the gun battle.
Recovered items from the hideout included two AK-49 rifles, two magazines containing seven rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, two Itel handsets, ATM cards, two lighters, charms, animal horns, and ₦10,000 in cash.
Investigations revealed that the neutralised gang leader, Duna, was responsible for several kidnappings across Karu, Guzape, Kpobi, Army Estate Kurudu, and other parts of Nasarawa State.
“The gang’s planned attempt to kidnap a resident of Federal Housing Estate, Karu, on September 18 was foiled due to the proactive raid and dislodgement of their camp. Anti-kidnapping and anti-banditry patrols are ongoing across border communities and identified hotspots,” Ajao said.
He also disclosed that two vigilantes sustained gunshot wounds when armed hoodlums invaded Kpobi village near Kpaduma III under Guzape on September 15, 2025.
