Federal Fire Service gets first female deputy controller-general

Olumode Samuel, controller-general (CG) of the Federal Fire
Service (FFS), has congratulated the newly decorated deputy
controller-generals, including Ijeoma Okidi, the service’s first female DCG.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, minister of interior, decorated the
newly promoted officers on Thursday at the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS)
headquarters in Abuja.

Tunji-Ojo said the appointments had presidential approval,
noting that they were based on merit, seniority, and an independent assessment
in line with the Federal Character Commission’s guidelines.

The minister said the administration of President Bola
Tinubu had ended career stagnation in the paramilitary services.

He noted that more than 52,000 officers had been promoted,
including a record 88 percent from assistant controller-generals to deputy
controller-generals.

He urged the new officers to demonstrate discipline,
integrity, teamwork, and loyalty to Nigeria.

He also asked them to cooperate fully with their respective
controller generals.

The officers are Muazu Tambari Aliyu, Okidi—the first woman
to attain the DCG rank in the fire service—and Kehinde Ajasa.

Adams Oshiomhole, chairman of the senate committee on
interior, described the event as “amazing and worth emulating”, while
commending the officers for their service to the nation.

After the ceremony, the fire service boss presented official
vehicles to the decorated DCGs — the first time such a gesture has been made in
the history of the service.

The CG said the vehicles symbolised higher responsibility
and a call to exemplary leadership.

He encouraged the officers to wear their new ranks with
pride and deliver results that would position the fire service as a pacesetter
among paramilitary agencies.
