The Federal Government on Tuesday commissioned the rehabilitated access road linking the newly commissioned Federal Secretariat in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The project was executed by the Federal Ministry of Works through the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed’s administration.
The rehabilitated road project which cost N641 million, is part of the ministry’s portfolio of 260 emergency and ecological road projects in the country.
The Federal Controller of Works in Zamfara State, Engr Kasimu Yusuf, explained that the road, before it was awarded to Messrs Construction Products Nigeria Limited in January, 2024, was in a very bad shape.
He said that motorists experience difficulties while plying the road during the rainy season.
“When we came before the project was awarded in January 2024, we found out that it was constructed by the Federal Ministry of Housing and it was in a very bad condition.
“It can’t be accessed especially after the rainfall, so staff of the secretariat and other people using the road found it difficult to ply.
“When we took over the 600 meters road project, the contractor did the stone base, binder, wiring and repairs of the line drain and every other construction you’re seeing now on the road and the road took 60 days for it to be completed.
“As you can see, the road is in perfect shape since its completion in May 2024; there are no single potholes on the road. This is to show the quality of the road and how important it is to the people and the community.
“The people are very happy, drivers are happy as well, and I want to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, for making this happen”, he said.
Commissioning the project on behalf of the Minister of Works, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, North-West, Abdullahi Tanko Yankasai, expressed satisfaction over the quality of work done.
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing project in the Northwest zone.
“I am very delighted on the quality of job done on this road by the contractor that handled the project and to the glory of God, we are commissioning this road that leads to the Federal Secretariat here in Gusau, the Zamfara State Capital that’s 600 meters and is being done under the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, he said.
