The Federal Government has reinstated its commitment to making the Nigerian business environment friendly for business to thrive.
Speaking at the Government-Private Sector Dialogue Series (GPS), the Finance and SME Growth Roundtable in Lagos at the weekend in Lagos, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of State, Finance, said that the platform is designed to bring government closer to the people, to listen, and to act.
The event was for business people from South East geo-political zone of the country and was organized in partnership with the Association of Computer Village Technology Merchants of Nigeria.
She said that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration is committed to partnering with the private sector, adding the “the Renewed Hope Agenda is more than a policy; it is a social contract to rebuild our economy so that enterprise can truly thrive.”
According to her, the recent reforms – including foreign-exchange unification, expanded credit access, and tax simplification – are laying the groundwork for stability and inclusive growth.
The minister stated that the government is opening new channels of finance for small and medium businesses, adding that the government cannot succeed without enterprise, and enterprise cannot thrive without partnership.
According to Doris Uzoka-Anite, partnership will build a stronger, fairer economy that rewards diligence, innovation, and patriotism.
The minister told the audience that the Federal Government values the contribution of South East entrepreneurs and remains committed to positioning the region as hub of manufacturing, trade, and export.
“Economic empowerment is the surest path to unity and shared prosperity. Let us choose partnership over pessimism, progress over politics, and hope- Renewed Hope- for our businesses, our communities, and our beloved nation,” she asserted.
In his remarks, Chief Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, the goal of the current administration is to tax prosperity while enabling struggling businesses to reinvest and grow before being taxed.
He stated that the policies of the government will strengthen revenues, create fiscal space, and support greater investment in the Nigerian people and infrastructure.
He disclosed that direct cash transfers will reach 15 million households, using biometric and digital systems to ensure accountability.
Prince Tony Nwakaeze, president of the Association of Computer Village Technology Merchants of Nigeria, thanked Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite for organizing the event, adding that it was the first time that the was listening to business people and consulting them regarding policies.
He called on the government implement policies that are in the interest of business people and Nigerians.
The Minister responded to questions from the attendees and promised to take their concerns into consideration when policies and programmes and being formulated and implemented.
