The Federal Government has announced a resolution to the recent controversy involving Fuji maestro Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, by reducing his flight ban and enlisting him as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol.
This was disclosed on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, in a statement addressing recent cases of unruly behavior at Nigerian airports.
Following an August 5 incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where KWAM 1 was accused of obstructing a ValueJet aircraft’s movement, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had initially placed him on a six-month no-fly list and filed a criminal complaint with the police. The musician was accused of carrying a prohibited flask, allegedly containing alcohol, and spilling its contents on security personnel.
However, the new resolution, which followed “appeals from well-meaning individuals” and the musician’s public display of penitence, sees the NCAA reducing the flight ban to one month. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will also work with the musician to engage him as an ambassador to promote awareness on acceptable conduct within the aviation space. As part of this agreement, the NCAA will withdraw its criminal complaints against him.
“The NCAA is to reduce his flight ban to a one-month period. FAAN will also work with the music star with a view to engaging him as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol going forward,” the statement read. “Having publicly demonstrated penitence, the NCAA is also to withdraw its criminal complaints against KWAM 1 earlier lodged with the police.”
The Minister emphasized that this clemency was granted on “compassionate grounds” but warned that the government remains committed to enforcing safety and security laws in the aviation sector. This development and appointment as airport security ambassador comes just days after Kwam 1 publicly apologized for the incident, insisting that the flask he carried contained water for medical reasons and not alcohol, as alleged by security personnel.
