Federal Government has officially announced the theme for the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary: “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
Unveiled on Tuesday, the theme underscores the urgent need for unity, collaboration, and patriotism across all sectors—public, private, civil society, and among citizens—towards building a more prosperous, peaceful, and progressive Nigeria.
According to a statement released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), the theme reflects the nation’s journey since independence on October 1, 1960, and calls for renewed commitment to national development.
> “Since achieving independence, the nation has successfully navigated difficulties and achieved notable advancements in diverse economic sectors,” the statement reads. “This necessitates collective efforts to solidify these gains and pursue loftier objectives, aiming to forge a powerful nation for all citizens.”
Government ministries, departments, and agencies have been directed to align their programmes and activities with the official theme, ensuring that the message of unity and national development resonates across the country in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
As part of the celebrations, several events have been lined up, including a Juma’at Prayer on Friday, September 26 at 1:00 PM, followed by an Inter-Denominational Church Service on Sunday, September 28 at 10:00 AM. A World Press Conference will also hold on Monday, September 29 at 10:00 AM, all ahead of the main Independence Day celebration on October 1.
The announcement was signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations, OSGF, and dated September 24, 2025.
As Nigeria marks 65 years of independence, the theme serves as a rallying call for every Nigerian to contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
