Fire guts 4 flats in Abuja

A fire outbreak has gutted four out of five blocks of three-bedroom flats at number 13 Nelson Mandela Street, Asokoro, Abuja, leaving residents and neighbours in shock.

The fire which reportedly started on the building’s solar panels, quickly spread into an inferno that engulfed almost the entire building said to belong to former Zamfara State governor, Senator Ahmed Yerima.

Head of Search and Rescue Team at the FCT Emergency Management Department, FEMD, Monday Addie, said the incident was reported at about 1pm.

A statement by the Head, Public Affairs of FEMD, Nkechi Isa, confirmed that no life was lost to the incident. “However, the four affected flats were totally burned. Furniture, clothing, food items, and other personal effects were destroyed by the fire.”

She added that emergency responders from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Federal Fire Service, FCT Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and the FCT Police Command were on ground to attended to the incident.
