Swift intervention by the Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Monday night averted a major disaster when a generator house went up in flames at No. 23B Iyaganku Crescent, Ibadan.
The incident, reported through the Security Trust Fund’s 615 emergency line at 9:28 pm, saw officers of the state fire service, led by Acting Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Bamidele Samsudeen, promptly deployed to the scene.
On arrival, the team found the generator house of a private residence engulfed in flames. The firemen quickly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to the main building and adjoining properties.
No casualties were recorded, while properties worth millions of naira were saved. The operation was jointly executed with the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command.
Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, commended the officers for their swift response but cautioned residents on the need for preventive measures.
He advised the public to always unplug electrical appliances when not in use and to equip their homes with fire extinguishers to tackle minor incidents before they escalate.
“Fire prevention is everybody’s responsibility, and safety must begin at home,” Akinwande said.
