A late-night fire on Tuesday engulfed the fourth floor of Emab Plaza, a four-storey commercial building tucked behind the popular Mandilas building on Taiwo Street, Lagos Island.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the outbreak was reported at 7:23 p.m., prompting crews from the Ebute Elefun and Oniru fire stations to rush to the scene.

Deputy Controller General of the agency, Olajide Ogabi, explained that the fire started on the top floor of the plaza. Firefighters battled intensely to stop the flames from spreading across the crowded commercial district.

No casualties have been reported, though the cause of the fire remains unclear. fire Authorities have urged residents and traders to steer clear of the area while investigations begin.

The incident came only hours after another blaze broke out earlier that afternoon at Afriland Tower, a six-storey building on Broad Street, also on Lagos Island. That fire, reported at about 1:38 p.m., drew a swift response from crews dispatched from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu stations.

Emergency services successfully rescued nine victims from Afriland Tower, which houses a branch of United Bank for Africa (UBA).
