First-Ever Digital Database For Women’s Empowerment Set To Launch In Nigeria, Friday

Lagos – A groundbreaking and first-ever digital platform, tagged Women Data Base (WDB) aimed at empowering women through access to vital information, knowledge, and opportunities is scheduled for launch in Abuja on 17 October. The initiative, titled the 5 Million Women Database, is spearheaded by the Dr. Ejike Oji Community Development Foundation in partnership with the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development.

The platform is expected to serve as a transformative tool for women’s development across Nigeria, offering a centralised hub for resources, support networks, and data-driven opportunities.

Speaking over the weekend, the convener, Dr. Ejike Oji revealed that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Benjamin Kanu, will attend the event as the Special Guest of Honour. However, the chief host of the occasion will be the Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, Dr. Asabe Vilita Bashir.

Dr. Oji, who is Chairman Association for the Advancement of Family Planning (AAFP) in Nigeria and Chair of Nigeria FP2030 Civil Society Organisations (CSO) Focal Point, Nigeria, stated that the event will be hosted by Princess Edna Azura (Kwatam Mutaku), 16th National President, National Council of Women Societies (NCWS).

Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, Chairperson, House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development will serve as the co-host.

While reiterating that several other dignitaries are expected to attend, he explained that the vision behind the platform, an idea born out of his over three decades of experience in women’s health and rights advocacy.

He noted that empowering women with the right information and skills enables them to take charge of their lives, and the new platform seeks to make that possible.

“The women database is a conglomeration of all the work I have done, brought onto one platform. It’s a one-stop shop for women. We want to use the database to link women to health information and health services.

“Among its features is an AI-powered virtual doctor called AI Medic, which provides consultations for as little as N500 per 24 hours. The platform also includes a telemedicine app that allows users to speak with live doctors via video, as well as an internet speed test to ensure smooth connectivity.

“Another feature, MyDiner, is designed to support women in the food business by allowing them to generate quick response (QR) codes linked to their menus, making it easier for customers to place orders.”

Dr. Oji added that the database includes several AI applications to help women participate in the global technology movement. “Anybody not linked to technology in the next 10 years will be left behind.

“The platform also includes an e-commerce section where women can advertise and sell their products to a potential audience of five million users. In addition, the Kamandi AI tool helps users build professional profiles, develop business concepts and proposals, and enhance their skills.

“Training modules are also embedded in the platform, offering lessons on soft skills, entrepreneurship, bookkeeping, financial inclusion, and gender-related issues, including how to handle sexual harassment in the workplace.

“To further support women’s economic empowerment, the platform features a venture capital initiative that will provide small business loans ranging from N50,000 to N100,000 weekly or monthly, with plans to collaborate with financial institutions to expand access,” he said.

Dr. Oji urged all women to register with the platform to take advantage of its technology-driven services and opportunities. “This is about equipping women to thrive in today’s digital and economic landscape,” he added.
