“Focus on lawmaking, not Abaribe’s defection to ADC” – Atiku’s aide blasts Senate

“Focus on lawmaking, not Abaribe’s defection to ADC” – Atiku’s aide blasts Senate

Paul Ibe, spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the Senate for questioning Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a post on X on Friday, Ibe accused the Senate leadership of selectively invoking constitutional provisions.

He alleged that the Senate did not raise similar concerns when members of the opposition were defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His words: “All of a sudden Tinubu’s lapdog Senate is invoking sections of the Nigerian Constitution in querying Sen. Abaribe’s defection to the ADC.

“Where was the Sen. Akpabio-led Senate when the ruling party was coercing opposition lawmakers into the APC.”

Ibe said Abaribe had already been suspended by the Abia chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) before identifying with the ADC.

“It is a shame that they don’t know or pretend not to know that Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe was indefinitely suspended from APGA by the Abia State chapter on September 26, 2025, for alleged anti-party activities,” he said.

“He was no longer a member of APGA having been suspended as at the time he identified with ADC,” he added.

Ibe asked Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other lawmakers to focus on legislative duties rather than political disputes.

“So, Akpabio and his lackeys should save their energies for making laws for the good of Nigerians and not just serving as Tinubu’s yes-men/yes-women,” he added.
