Former Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, dies at 78

Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and esteemed statesman, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has passed away at the age of 78, his family announced.

In a heartfelt statement, the Ogbeh family shared, “With profound sorrow, we confirm the passing of our cherished husband, father, and grandfather, Chief Audu Ogbeh, on August 9, 2025, at the age of 78. He left us peacefully, leaving an enduring legacy of honor, commitment, and service to our nation and community. We find solace in the countless lives he impacted and the exemplary life he led.”

The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from friends, colleagues, and well-wishers, requesting privacy as they grieve the loss of their patriarch.

They noted that funeral arrangements would be shared in due time.

As distinguished farmer, playwright, and politician from Efugo-Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, he served as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2015 to 2019 under the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

At age 32, he made history as the youngest federal cabinet member when appointed Minister of Communications under President Shehu Shagari. Ogbeh also served as deputy speaker of the Benue House of Assembly after entering politics in 1979.

The family’s statement concluded, “His legacy of integrity and dedication will continue to inspire us all.”
