FRSC patrols bust ‘one chance’ robbery gang in Abuja

A vigilant Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) patrol team in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has nabbed a suspected “one chance” robbery gang after a high-speed pursuit through Wuse traffic, capturing all three members—including two women who couldn’t outrun the law and a man who tried scaling a wall to slip away.

Sector Commander Mr. Felix Theman broke the news during a Friday briefing in Abuja, crediting the bust to a team led by Deputy Route Commander (DRC) Moses Gimba.

The dramatic takedown unfolded around 12:30 p.m. near the Zone 3 bridge, when the FRSC crew spotted a suspicious ash-colored Volkswagen Passat with plate number EFR 596TT carrying one man and two women.

Theman recounted how the tip-off painted a grim picture: “The team were alerted to the alleged one chance gang, having been alleged to have attempted pushing off their victim out of the vehicle they were using.”

Spotting the FRSC vehicle, the suspects floored it, weaving through congestion until gridlock forced them to ditch the car at the Zone 4 traffic light by the AEDC office and bolt on foot.

The chase turned cinematic from there. “The two female members were unable to run and were caught, while the male suspect jumped across a wall of a building in an attempt to escape, but was also arrested,” Theman detailed. The entire trio, along with their getaway ride, was hauled back to the FRSC base for processing.

Quick on the protocol, Theman looped in the Commissioner of Police, who greenlit the Wuse Division’s Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to take custody for deeper digs. Despite their denials of “one chance” tactics, the suspects owned up to being a 419 scam outfit.

“Though the suspects denied being a gang of one chance members, they admitted to being a gang of 419. The suspects have been handed over to a team of policemen from Wuse Division,” he confirmed.

Wrapping up, Theman issued a stark warning to commuters: steer clear of unmarked taxis and stay sharp when hailing rides. He called on residents to be mindful of unpainted taxis and to remain vigilant while boarding vehicles.

He assured that the Corps would continue to do its best in creating safer roads and safer mobility in the FCT and its environs.
