Fuji star KWAM 1 issues apology for airport incident, clarifies misconduct claim

Renowned Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as KWAM 1 has issued a public apology following a confrontation with ValueJet personnel at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The incident, which gained attention after a viral video surfaced on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, showed KWAM 1 seemingly interfering with the aircraft’s takeoff procedures.

The altercation sparked significant public criticism, prompting the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to impose a six-month no-fly ban on the singer for violating aviation regulations and disrupting airline operations.

The NCAA also announced plans to pursue legal action against KWAM 1, involving the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police.

Additionally, the pilots involved in the incident face suspension and an ongoing investigation.

In response, KWAM 1, through his spokesperson Kunle Rasheed, released a statement dismissing the allegations as overstated and misleading.

In a video shared online over the weekend, the singer expressed regret, stating, “The incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on August 5 was unfortunate. I take full responsibility and humbly ask for forgiveness from the President, the nation, the Minister for Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, and my fans worldwide.”

KWAM 1 emphasized his commitment to Nigeria, saying, “My love for this country remains steadfast. I’ve always been a proud ambassador and will continue to uphold Nigeria’s name globally. I sincerely apologize for my actions.”

Addressing rumors that he carried an alcoholic beverage onto the flight, he clarified, “I suffer from chronic dehydration, as advised by my doctor, and always carry a water flask. The flask contained only water, not alcohol, contrary to false claims.”

He further explained that the flask was empty during two security screenings and was filled with water at the airport lounge before boarding, a claim he said could be verified by CCTV footage.

KWAM 1 urged the public to accept his apology and reaffirmed his dedication to being a positive representative of Nigeria.
