A tragic incident in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region has left a family and an entire community in mourning after a young man lost his life during an alleged attempt to steal copper wires from an electricity transformer.
The deceased, identified as Martine George, aged twenty-one, was a native of Kukuazugu near Walewale.
According to information gathered from residents, the incident occurred when he reportedly climbed an Electricity Company of Ghana transformer with the intention of cutting copper wires attached to it.
In the process, George was electrocuted and fell from the transformer. He died instantly at the scene before any help could arrive.
Residents who rushed to the area after noticing the situation said there was little that could be done, given the severity of the injuries he sustained.
Police have since visited the scene, and investigations are expected to be carried out, although no arrests have been made.
