The North East Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), has intercepted a major consignment of Tramadol Hydrochloride and arrested six suspects in Gbintri, near Nalerigu.

The operation, carried out on September 18, 2025, led to the seizure of 1,195 boxes of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg, commonly known as “Red”.

The restricted drug was concealed in a truck and uncovered during a coordinated security operation.

The suspects identified as Alhassan Braimah, Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Iddrisu, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik were arrested after two trucks with registration numbers GR 1712-16 and AW 4417-14 were intercepted.

The vehicles were reportedly loaded in Sankase, Togo, and headed toward Gbintri.

A detailed search revealed the Tramadol hidden among other goods in one of the trucks (GR 1712-16).

The consignment has since been secured as evidence.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted the drugs were destined for Moses Ayorik in Gbintri, who was expected to arrange their onward delivery to another contact in Gushegu.

All six suspects are in police custody, assisting with investigations. Security officials say efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the trafficking network.

In a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Robert Anabiik Anmain, the North East Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking operations and safeguarding public safety.

The Command also appealed to the public to report suspicious activities and support law enforcement efforts to curb the spread of illicit drugs in the region.
